Decalogo - Testo apocrifo per una stanza sola
“Decalogo - Testo apocrifo per una stanza sola“ is a theatre play developed by Emma Francesca Savoldi and Sara Cerati.
In this play I was in charge of taking care of the music part and the sound design.
Following the director’s vision, the sound design was built around the idea of creating two strongly separated spaces.
The exterior of Caterina’s room suggests to the audience a house that is not entirely realistic and that carries a subtle sense of threat. Monica Gilardetti and Paolo Massini, the actors who voiced the parents, pursued a semi-realistic approach while maintaining a clear distinction from Caterina’s character.
Their voices sound slightly dubbed, not entirely direct or clear. As a result, when Caterina interacts with her parents, her difficulty in communicating with them in a way that feels natural to her becomes audible in the sound itself.
The rest of the sound outside the room follows a form of realism that is at once crude and slightly magical, suggesting a reality where events never occur entirely by chance.
Inside Caterina’s room, the sonic space is dominated by the electric guitar. The instrument vibrates together with the protagonist, accentuating moments of tension and release. In this sense, the guitar functions as an emotional extension of Caterina’s innerprocess.
